Sailing
Experience the Real Maine on Acadia’s Quiet Side as we sail among the Cranberry Islands and Somes Sound. Enjoy the breath taking vistas of Acadia National Park, unspoiled by cruise ships and resort hotels. Sit back and relax as we sail past the lighthouses, lobstermen, and magnificent summer “cottages” that make this world-class cruising area unique.
Hosted on a traditional Maine-built wooden Schooner, the Rachel B. Jackson carries a maximum of 30 passengers, making her the perfect size to get a big boat experience without being crowded.
Offerings include: Day Sails, Boat and Breakfast Overnights, and Private Charters out of Southwest Harbor.
For a more intimate sailing adventure check out our Friendship Sloop Surprise, a real Maine-built wooden boat carrying a maximum of only 6 passengers. Delighting scores of Downeast Rusticators since 1964, your cruise aboard the Friendship Sloop Surprise is sure to be the highlight of your Acadia National Park visit.
Lobster Fishing
The only Lobster Boat tour on Mt. Desert Island hosted on a traditional 50' Downeast Wooden Boat. Hurricane is a real fishing boat, built right here in Southwest Harbor in 1967. We cater to families... making M/V Hurricane the most affordable and unique cruise on Mt. Desert Island.
During our cruise watch as Captain Andrew demonstrates how lobster traps are hauled. Captain Andrew describes all the parts of a lobster trap and how the lobsters are attracted to the bait inside. Did you know that lobsters actually smell their food by using four small antennae on the front of their heads and tiny sensing hairs that cover their bodies? Learn all about the anatomy and life cycle of the Maine Lobster. Once the trap is on board, you can learn about and touch all the various sea creatures that find their way into the traps (gloves provided). There is plenty of room on Hurricane for everyone to get involved.
